The lack of a safe and reliable product for their baby was a big deal for Varun and Ghazal Alagh from Delhi. Firstly keeping the Make in India approach, both did research for product development. Manufacturing in India was also necessary to make the brand pocket friendly for the common people. Products launched in the market after strict investigation
The company has its own research lab where the products are developed and tested and tested by Medsafe Agency of USA, The company has made its formulations as per Medsafe guidelines. Specifically, 8000 products are tested to see if they are made without harmful chemicals. But the work of investigation does not end here.

Now Mamaearth’s products are made with such care, they will be safe for children, but for small and new brands, it is a big challenge to deliver such painstakingly made products to customers, so the founders thought of celebrity brand endorsement. Although this idea was very expensive. Shilpa Shetty’s name was perfect in every respect. While efforts were on to make her the brand ambassador, seeing the quality of the product, Shilpa became an investor in the startup.
Started with only an online approach, Mamaearth is now moving towards offline. The brand has reached over 1 million customers online across 300+ cities. Varun and Ghazal started the business with Rs 25 lakh.
Having raised INR 75 lakhs from friends and family prior to the brand launch, followed by Series A rounds from Stellaris and Fireside, the total investment so far in the business is INR 30 crores.
The company has crossed the total revenue of Rs 100 crore. The company is now introducing a range of natural products for the elderly in the product portfolio. Mamaearth aims to be the body care brand for the whole family.
Early Life of Ghazal Alag
She was born on 2 September 1988 in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. She was born in a middle-class Hindu family. She did her schooling at a nearby school. After this, she obtained a BCA degree from Punjab University. After this, she did post graduation from Punjab University.
How Ghazal Alag started Mamaearth
She did the job of Corporate Trainer 2 with NIIT Limited. At this time a son was born to her. Her son had a skin problem. Sge started using many heavy medicines to treat her son’s skin. But he was not getting any relief. That’s why he started experimenting by getting medicines from abroad. But she felt that this medicine is not available in our country. That’s why she investigated the reason for this in many places. They came to know that we can make this medicine in India. So with a lot of thought, she started Mamaearth Startup in 2016 with her husband Varun Alagh.
